2017 Summer Concert: The Joy of Song

Our next concert, The Joy of Song, will take place on the 18th and 19th of May 2017.  The concert includes  Zimbe! the famous choral fusion of African song and jazz, which will be performed for the first time in Asia. The first half of the concert will see the International Choir and Orchestra of HCMC perform Handel’s Zadok the Priest, as well as works by Gabriel Faure & John Rutter.

This year the ICO are also joined by the newly formed FOBISIA Youth Choir of HCMC. FOBISIA stands for the ‘Federation of British International Schools in Asia’. FOBISIA is proud to have three schools as members in HCMC: The ABC International School (ABCIS), The British International School (BIS) and The British Vietnamese International School (BVIS). The Youth Choir will perform three songs in the first half, some of which will be accompanied by the ICO orchestra. The ICO Chamber Choir will also perform two contrasting pieces by Jean Thielemans & Arvo Part.

The second half of the concert will combine all forces of ICO, Youth Choir and also a professional jazz quintet! The combined forces of over 140 performers will give the Asian premiere of Zimbe!, a work celebrating the songs of Africa written by Alexander L’Estrange. This is sure to make everyone watching want to join in the magic of making music together and celebrating ‘The Joy of Song’!
